The students of St Mary’s English Medium School(CBSE), Kannarpady, Udupi ventured into a field trip to experience the practical knowledge of farming in a paddy field. 25 students of X Std accompanied by the Principal of the School Rev. Fr. Johnson L Sequeira, teachers Mr Vinay Suvarna, Mrs Linet J Castelino and Mr Jagadish Acharya spent half a day on 31/7/2019, Wednesday from 1.15 p.m. to 3.15 p.m. in the paddy field of Mr Mahesh Suvarna, Durganagara near Shankarpura as a part of their Social Science assessment required by the CBSE Board.
The students interacted with the young farmer Mr Mahesh Suvarna and his family and clarified their doubts regarding farming. Later the students got into the field where they planted paddy saplings enthusiastically. They planted the saplings in the hot sun for more than an hour. After this children were demonstrated with electronic milking process. Students were also shown the jasmine plants and the history of the famous “Shankerpura Mallige” was described to them.
At the end Mr. Mahesh Suvarna and his family was presented with a gift as a token of love by Principal on behalf of the school.
On the whole the field trip provided a memorable and practical experience to the St Marians. Students enjoyed this field trip and learnt so many things.
