73rd Independence Day celebration

“Thousands laid down their lives so that our country can remember and celebrate this 15th day of August, as a day of Indian Independence”, St Mary’s English Medium school(CBSE), Kannarpady, Udupi, celebrated 73rd Independence Day with great love and devotion for the nation and the spirit of patriotism.

The flag hoisting ceremony started at 8:45 am. The chief guest of the day Commander Nanda Kishore, president of the function, Rev Fr Valerian Mendonca, correspondent, St Mary’s Educational Institutions, Principal Rev Fr Johnson L Sequeira were escorted to the flag post by Vice Principal Mrs Rita Quadros accompanied by master Atheeth, SPL and master Aaron D’souza ASPL. Commander Nanda Kishore unfurled the tricolor and the whole school showed respect to the National Flag by saluting and singing the National Anthem.

The formal function was arranged in St Mary’s Auditorium which began with seeking blessings from Almighty by the school choir. Mrs Ahkila introduced the guest to the gathering and welcomed everyone present in the premises. The Commander addressed the gathering by commemorating the effort and sacrifice done by the freedom fighters and national leaders to gift us the freedom we enjoy today. “The constitution of India is given to us by ourselves so we need to respect it, and that can be done by serving the society in different ways”, he said. He gave a call to the students to study hard and enjoy student life with responsibility for the personal, social and national betterment. He was very happy to announce the starting of the Naval Wing in the school.

Rev Fr Valerian Mendonca, explained the importance of the day and the values found in the constitution in brief.

The programme was witnessed by students of St Mary’s, teaching and non- teaching staff and a number of parents. Though it was raining, the love for the country didn’t stop St Marian’s show their respect towards their motherland. The celebration came to an end by words of gratitude by Ms Anusha. Principal Rev Fr Johnson L Sequeira planned and executed the event and Vice Principal Mrs Rita Quadros supported. Mr Gerald Pinto well-coordinated the event. Mr Bhaskar assisted him. At the end all were distributed with sweets to make the occasion sweet and beautiful.
