Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated as Samskrithi Habba with great pomp and show on November 1st 2019 at St Mary s English Medium School. The day began with a programme wherein the students of all the classes took part in it very enthusiastically. They entered the school wearing Karnataka’s traditional dresses both vibrant and colourful. There was a festive mood in the air.
The chief guest for the day was Dr .Sandeep Shetty, professor in Kannada literature in Beary’s First Grade College from the past 14 years. He is honoured as “Kannada Rathnashree” by the Kannada Sahithya Parishad. He as also awarded with the Doctorate Degree by the Madras University in the year 2019. He was given a traditional welcome by the Correspondent Rev. Fr Valarian Mendonca and our Principal Rev. Fr Johnson Sequeira by offering jaggery and water. Later he along with other dignitaries was led to the dais with the beats of the drums (chande) by a group of students. Principal honoured the guests with shawls. The programme was inaugurated by opening the arecanut flowers.
Nireeksha of std 9 welcomed the gathering. Prizes were awarded to the winners of various events held in regard of Kannada Rajyotsava.
The chief guest of the day Mr.Sandeep Shetty stressed on the importance of the Kannada language in this fast growing and changing world. It was really amazing to hear him speak such fluent Kannada without using any other language in his speech.
Students of all classes took active participation in various cultural programmes. They sang Bhavageetha and classical songs. They also played the flute and the tabla. They even danced to the beats of the drums of the famous tiger dance.
